We Worship You

I LOVE this song…all 10 minutes of it.  It features Fred Hammond (solo artist and former member and bass player for Commissioned) leading Joe Pace’s Colorado Mass Choir.  And as a bonus, Donald Lawrence sneaks end at the very end doing his own exhortation…”Not because of a new car, not because of a new house….WE WORSHIP!!…but because, see you don’t get it on the inside…you gotta get it in your SPIRIT!!”

Heaven

The first time Boston’s own “Millennium Choir” performed in public was in the fall of 1999.  In addition to singing Kirk Franklin’s “Lean On Me” and Hezekiah Walker’s “Do You Know Him”, the group sang backup for the great Karen Clark Sheard on this song, “Heaven” when she performed at an outdoor gospel concert in Franklin Park.  I’m am honored to say I was a member of that fabulous choir.

(Never Can Forget) What You’ve Done For Me

Okay, so I watched a YouTube video last night of The Trinity UCC of Chicago choir singing “(Never Can Forget) What You’ve Done For Me”.  That led to a serious case of earworm and that lead to this post; THREE (3) versions of the song, each of which I love.  For the version from the Trinity UCC, I spliced in a solo intro from another recording because I love that too…you can hear the change in quality, if not a bit in pitch, but it works..IMHO.   The version from the GMWA Youth Choir has the best fidelity, and the last version is good old time music.  Have a wonderful day.  And NEVER forget all the wonderful things He’s done for you.

Ain’t No Need To Worry

Today’s selection is from Detriot’s fabulous, progressive gospel group, The Winans. Alway’s pushing the envelope of contemporary gospel and fusing it with the secular sounds of The Motor City, The Winans always had a great, unique sound and style with voices that harmonized beautifully.

Down In My Soul

A wonderful old school style acapella song from Margaret Ingram’s Gospel Singers.  Actually this song is virtually identical to the song “God Is Good” (performed by the FABULOUS Joyful Voices of Inspiration…thank you Ms. Bella Harris for the wonderful lead on that song!!) that I posted a while back.

I Won’t Complain

This song, “I Won’t Complain” has become a torch-y classic since it was first released by the late Rev. Paul Jones in 1990 shortly before he was tragically murdered.

Here we have Boston’s own, the incomparable Brother Dennis Montgomery from the faculty of The Berklee School of Music noodling around playing and instrumental B3 version of “I Won’t Complain” while showing some students technique and style.  I LOVE this cut!!!!!!

Thank You Lord

Over the past three years I must have published about 10 songs titled “Than You Lord” or “I Thank You Lord”, and still I ran across another such song I have yet to post.  Not sure how I missed this since this is a classic from the EARLY days of James Cleveland when he often collaborated with Charles Fold.  It’s a good time of year to stop, reflect a bit and then say to one’s self, “Thank You Lord”.

Trust Him

One of the sad things about gospel music is that it has never gotten the recognition it deserves.  Not that people sing gospel for recognition, that’s different, but the music itself should be recognized for what it is; inspiring, powerful, soul stirring, healing music.

Today’s song is from an unknown youth choir from Newark N.J.  I can find NOTHING at all about them on the internet (other than a few of their songs on YouTube).  But they make a great sound and the song, “Trust Him” is a great song.  Had Ty Pearson, Pastor at Faith Builders International in Holy Springs, N.C. , not taken the time to post this (and soooooooooo many others) on his Gospel Nostalgia You Tube page, no one would have known about this great group of kids, their music and this song.
