From the amazing Hezekiah Walker and his Love Fellowship Tabernacle Choir, I present to you today one of their very best songs, “I Need You To Survive”.
For many years Joyful Voices of Inspiration closed every concert with this song, walking through the hall singing to the audience, hugging them, shaking hands…it was quite powerful. Unfortunately, the choir sang it so many times it got a bit old and stale, but this original version can still more the strongest of us to tears.
A great contemporary gospel song from the CLC Youth Choir. Wait until 1:19 when the intro ends and the beat picks up…a great walking bass. And these “kids” can sing!!
CLC stands for Christian Life Center, a large (primarily black) congregation in Hagerstown just west of Baltimore MD. CLC is know for its great music programs and both their adult and youth choirs have recorded several albums and gained due recognition.
This song blew me away when I heard it again yesterday after a long time. Its’ from 1999 and I’d kinda forgotten about it. Anyway, if you need just ONE SONG to open a concert, THIS IS IT (given a great choir of course).
The song kind of lulls you into a seemingly nice quaint version of “(Savior) Do Not Pass Me By” with a great intro…but when the choir comes in at 0:50, OH MY GAWD!!! The power and the passion and the feeling EXPLODES…SAVIOR!!!! BLESSED SAVIOR!!!”.
Whew! From there the soloist and the choir trade off for the next 5 minutes or so until the vamp kicks in at 6:00…followed by handclaps…and then a fantastic 3 part build that takes the song out. Fantastic!!
From the days of the big mass choirs, the 1980’s, I bring you a selection from the Louisiana Chapter of The Gospel Music Workshop of America. Often times these choirs are pulled together from local or statewide talent just to make and album and then they disperse. But while they are together, they make big, beautiful music.
Okay, time for a Saturday morning Holy Ghost dance party!! “Spirit! Holy Spirit, fall down on me!” That’s all you gotta know. So, get up, put down your mug of coffee, crank up the volume (if the family is still sleeping, put on the headphones first!), start movin’, groovin’, clappin’ your hands and singing.
There, I just made your day!…we’ll actually the MUSIC made your day. Have a great one.

Today we have a VIDEO offering featuring the fabulous Chicago Mass Choir. It’s a old traditional song…well the intro kick-ass guitar riff may not be quite “traditional” , but it sure is good! I get a kick out of the video because the one of the musicians at the beginning of the song is Dr. Mario Vaughn (on keyboards), music director for Chicago Mass, who lead a three day gospel music workshop I attended last year. He is a fabulous musician and a beautiful person.
