You Are The Living Word

Great song. It has a bit of the Christmas vibe in the lyrics…”sent down from glory”…”manger born”. Enjoy.

Bread of life/heaven, sent down from glory
Many things you were on earth
A holy king, a carpenter, but you are the living Word.

Jesus, Jesus that’s we call you
Manger born but on a tree
You died to save humanity  (note…no, He did not die “to save a manatee”. RLS)
You are the living Word

You Are The Only One/Jesus Is The Reason For The Season

Last night at rehearsal we re-visited Kirk Franklin & The Family’s song “Jesus Is The Reason For The Season”.  As I listen to the original recording just now, I couldn’t help but think it reminded me a lot of another Kirk Franklin song he recorded with “God’s Property” titled “You Are The Only One”.  “All the young people driving down the street in your Jeeps, I want you to pump this up real loud so the neighborhood can hear ya, so it can be one time for your holy mind”

So today I offer up a two-fer.  Enjoy!!!

I Smile – Accompaniment Track

Many of you know this is one of my favorite songs, so, having just spent a good deal of time singing along with this great accompaniment track just now, I thought I’d give ya’ll a chance.   Lyrics are below.  And remember, especially during this holiday season, SMILE.

“I just don’t want you to be happy, I want you to have joy ’cause can’t nobody take that away from you.”

I SMILE

I dedicate this song to recession, depression and unemployment
This song’s for you

Today’s a new day
But there is no sunshine
Nothing but clouds
And it’s dark in my heart
And it feels like a cold night

Today’s a new day
But where are my blue skies?
Where is the love and the joy
That you promised me?
Tell me it’s alright

I’ll be honest with you

I almost gave up, but a power
That I can’t explain
Fell from Heaven like a shower
Now

When I think how much better I’m gon’ be when this is over

I smile,
Even though I hurt, see, I smile
I know God is working so I smile
Even though I’ve been here for a while
What you do? I smile
Come on, smile
It’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down
Sure would hate to see you give up now
God’s people, you look so much better when you smile, so smile

Now every day ain’t gon’ be perfect,
But it still don’t mean today don’t have purpose
Come on

Today’s a new day
But there is no sunshine
Nothing but clouds
And it’s dark in my heart
And it feels like a cold night

It ain’t easy, but today’s a new day
But tell me where are my blue skies
Where is that love yo?
Where is the love and the joy
That you promised me?
Tell me it’s alright

The truth is I almost gave up, but a power
That I can’t explain
The Holy Ghost power, yo
Fell from Heaven like a shower
Now

Now know we’ve been hurt you but still I smile,
Even though I hurt, see, I smile
I know God is working so I smile
Even though I’ve been here for a while
Still, I smile,
Hallelujah, smile
It’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down
Sure would hate to see you give up now
God’s people, you look so much better when you smile

Let’s go, smile for me
Can you just smile for me?
Whatever you’re in right now
Smile for me, smile
Can you just smile for me?

And my people say
You look so much better when you
You look so much better when you
You look so much better when you
You look so much better when you

I say you look so much better when you
And while you’re waiting
You look so much better when you
And while you’re praying
You look so much better when you
Look in the mirror
You look so much better when you
Always remember
You look so much better when you smile
Come on

I almost gave up, I almost gave up
But a power, that I can’t explain
But the Holy Ghost power, yo
Fell from Heaven like a shower
Came down from Heaven now
Hardships, difficulties
Right now
Tears storms this is what I do

I smile
Even though I hurt, see, I smile
What it feels good
I know God is working so I smile
All things are working
Even though I’ve been here for a while
Still I smile,
Smile, hallelujah
It’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down
I know it’s hard right now
Sure would hate to see you give up now
Because you’re a winner
You look so much better when you smile
You look better, so, smile

Dallas, you look so much better when you
New Orleans, you look so much better when you come one
Cleveland, you look so much better when you
Detroit, you look so much better when you
Philly, you look so much better when you
Jersey, you look so much better when you
L.A., you look so much better when you

All my people say you look so much better when you smile

See, I just don’t want you to be happy
‘Cause you gotta have something happening
I want you to have joy
‘Cause can’t nobody take that away from you
I see you smile

I’m Healed

From the great Donald Lawrence, a song that reminds me very much of Karen Clark Sheard’s song “Heaven“.  This is pure D. Lawrence; great music.

Speak To My Heart

So, as promised yesterday, here is Donnie McClurkin’s original release of “Speak To My Heart”.  The song was re-recorded and re-released on Donnie’s 1996 debut solo album, “Donnie McClurkin”.  The album also contained Donnie’s other big hit, “Stand

I’ll Keep Holdin’ On

The New York Restoration Choir was founded by Donnie McClurkin in 1991. This cut is from the choir’s debut album released in 1991 that premiered Donnie’s huge hit, “Speak To My Heart”…which I just noticed I have yet to post!  I’ll post it tomorrow!

Oh The Joy

Another masterpiece from Ricky Dillard and his FABULOUS New Generation Chorale.  Dillard is such a perfectionist that all his songs are just plain fun to listen to for the incredible execution of song.  Have a JOYOUS day!!

My God Is Wonderful

A gem of a song from James Cleveland and his California choirs from the late 80’s.  I love this song, it just kinda grabs me…it’s so “singable”.  I always marvel at how much great music there still is to be posted…after almost 900 songs I still seem to uncover something of interest every day.

My God Is Wonderful
Words and Music by Rev. Quincy Fielding, Jr.

Chorus
My God is wonderful…
My God is wonderful
He saved my soul from sin…
He gave me life within
He made my joy complete
With Him eternally
My God is wonderful to me

Verse 1
He’s so loving
He’s so kind
He’s my Savior
And I’m glad He’s mine
When I was lost
Couldn’t find my way
He opened my eyes
Now I can say
My God is wonderful to me

Verse II
He healed the sick,
Raised the dead
Five thousand souls He led
When I was down to my last dime
The God I serve stepped in on time
My God is wonderful

Special chorus
My God is wonderful…
My God is wonderful
He saved my soul from sin
He saved my soul from sin
He saved my soul from sin
He saved my soul from sin
Saved (Saved)
Saved (Saved)
Saved (Saved)
Saved (Saved from sin)

He saved my soul from sin
He saved my soul from sin
He saved my soul from sin
He gave me peace within
He made my joy complete
With Him eternally
My God is wonderful to me

Lord, I Want To Know You

I stumbled across this great song this morning.  It looks like I TRIED to post it a few years ago, but that was before I understood the WordPress doesn’t like handling m4p files from Apple (they’re protected), so I had to re-record the song in an mp3 format just now to post it.  What I won’t do for my gospel blog posse!!  At any rate, I love the song and I hope you do too!

Come To Jesus

I usually don’t post really churchy/preachy songs along the lines of “Come To Jesus (Right Now)”, but the late Rev. James Moore is such a treasure, and the song is so good, I just couldn’t “hep mysef”.  So, without further ado, from Rev. James Moore in 1987, the height of his career before diabetes started to impact him, here is “Come To Jesus”.
