Even Bigger and Better
The 2015-2016 season has gotten off to a phenomemal start. We had 65 singers attend our frist four "orientation" rehearsals and membership is now clsoed. What a huge, beautful sound the choir is making!
Come and see and hear us. Will we have several performing engagements throughout the year, and this coming July we will be going to Montreal and Quebec Canada for our annual singing tour.
The Choir has a fantastic new keybard.
Our nine year old Casio keyboard was getting pretty run down and rather than throw good money after bad to pay for repairs to an inexpensive instrument, the choir decided to acquire a new keyboard.
Our new HAMMOND SK-1 (88 keys) arrived in mid October! Not only does it have wonderful piano voices, but also can sound like a BIG Hammond B3 organ found in many black churches across the country. The sound it produces in the hands of a master musician such as Donnell Patterson is amzing. We THANK all our supporters over the years who have let us save the money to get this new instrument; it will make a huge difference in the choir's sound.
Donnell Returns...for a THIRD Season!!!
Donnell Patterson is now starting his third season with JVOI and he is so excited to be working with us yet again.
We are truly blessed to have such an energetic, dynamic, enthusiastic, talented and FUN director as Donnell. Donnell's credentials are truely impressive having attended the New England Conservatory of Music, and earned Masters degrees in Music from both University of South Florida and Harvard. And that's just his formal training!
In 1987, Donnell brought together a group of vocalists to form the Patterson Chorale, which specializes in and performs spirituals and traditional gospel. The chorale performed at the opening of the original House of Blues in Harvard Square and was the first gospel group to play its Sunday gospel brunches. For many years, Donnell served as accompanist for the Cambridge Community Chorus under the direction of Maestro William Thomas. In 2000, Donnell was appointed Program Director of the Roland Hayes School of Music, a public high school music program in the Boston Public Schools located at Madison Park.
In 2005, Donnell became the Director of Music of Belmont Hill School, however Donnell is most proud of his tenure of 20 plus years as Minister of Music at St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
He is the extremely proud father of his twins, MelDonique and MelDonar!
