Could 2017 Be The End??

Over the past 13 months I have posted almost 700 gospel songs to the Blog and the streaming audio player. iTunes tells me I have 1,531 gospel songs in total, but many of them are snippets, rehearsal tracks, not so great tracks that only I might appreciate, etc….unusable songs…so, in actually I might have only about 1,200 good, post-able songs in at most.

Soooo…I might exhaust my supply sometime in 2017 if I keep posting at the same rate I have been. I could reach the end sometime in the coming year.

I KNOW what you’re thinking and feeling as a result of this shocking news, so I’m including a special bonus track that certainly will speak directly to your sense of impending loss.  (If you’re not familiar with this rock gem from 1967, wait at least until the vocals start at 0:33…then you can turn it off! (Hey man, that intro is far out man, like pschyodelic, ya know??? )

Don’t Give Up Now

I find this song interesting because a.) the soloist/vocalist doesn’t really have a lovely voice and b.) the song isn’t all that special, but nonetheless I found myself really moved by it every time I listen to it. The choir doesn’t bill itself as a youth choir, and it’s not, but the high voices sue make it sound like one.  A diamond in the rough one might say.

Happy a fun, safe New Year’s weekend, and I’ll be back with more next year.

This Is A Wake-Up Call

This should start your day off right…or Wright, as the case may be.

An excerpt from Timothy Wright’s “Who’s On The Lord Side”. This is from the part where they ask those in the audience who are “on the Lord’s side” to GET UP!!!

Twinkie’s Organ Prelude (High Place)/Endow Me

I LOVE The Clark Sisters. And I REALLY love it when Twinkie just plays her B3.

Today’s post is a two song mash up I made that starts off with Twinkie on the B3 playing a riff she calls “High Place”…a piece of B3 organ music that really does take me to a very high place. I love the chord progressions starting around 2:05.  This is followed by the entire group of Clark Sisters performing their song “Endow Me” live in Charlotte North Carolina (Yup, props to NC DP and Dana!).

Have a blessed day.

There’s No Greater Love

One doesn’t hear much about Helen Baylor, but she is a gifted gospel singer and I really like her contemporary songs. In the 90’s she put out several successful albums.

In the “EVERYONE HAS A STORY” department, Helen has a good one. Breifly…she was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. At age 11 she moved to Los Angeles as her Dad had been transferred. There she first performed as a nightclub act. She is one of seven kids, she has five brothers and one other sister. At age sixteen she had her first child.

Baylor opened for Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, and B.B. King while still in her teens, and performed in the musical Hair. She began using marijuana and pain pills. Before going on tour with Chaka Khan she began dating the lighting director who was also a drug dealer. They moved in together and she had all the cocaine she wanted. Together they quit and found God. In 1982 she happily married her former cocaine dealer: James Baylor.

When We All Get To Heaven

A classic from Donald Vails. This really is the definitive version of this great song. And the soloist!! That woman hits high notes I didn’t even know were invented.

Clean Inside

Another great song from Hezekiah Walker.

Now, if only God would stop by my house my house and make it clean inside as well, I’d be all set. If He doesn’t show up soon, I’ve got my work cut out for me today.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone. This morning I have two songs for you. A traditional Christmas song with a wonderful gospel spin on it from a vocalist named Marjorie Jacobs singing with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. The other isn’t a gospel song, but it IS a wonderful piece of acapella vocal music. Enjoy them both and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”.

Handel’s Messiah – A Soulful Celebration

A holiday treat for all of you. The complete album of the gospel version of Handel’s Messiah that culminates in the Soulful Hallelujah. What better music to listen to while puttering around the kitchen cooking and baking and getting ready for gatherings of family and friends. (Seems I posted this on December 9th of last year, but it’s worth reposting!!!)

Have a wonderful day!!
