“Take Me to the King” was released on June 12, 2012 as the lead single from Tamala Mann’s third studio album, “Best Days”. At the 55th Grammy Awards in February 2013 the song received a nomination for “Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance”. Also a huge commercial success, “Take Me to the King” topped the US Billboard Gospel Songs chart for 19 consecutive weeks. In 2016, “Take Me to the King” was certified Platinum the RIAA for sales exceeding 1,000,000 copies. This version was recorded live at The First Baptist Church of Glenarden in Landover MD, about 10 miles northeast of Washington DC.

Tamela, like Kirk Franklin, was born in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the youngest of 14 children and grew up in The Church of God in Christ as have so many gifted gospel singers. She began her career as a singer with “Kirk Franklin and the Family”, and was a featured soloist on several tracks while with Franklin’s group, including “Lean on Me.
